I have established my base of operations in Pisgah National Forest on the campus of Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) as I complete my 10 weeks of summer research as outlined by my acceptance of the NC Space Grant Cline Astronomy Scholarship. I am very fortunate to have a great staff that is working on my behalf back in Charlotte. Vice President Tim Ersnt, Chief of Staff Simon O’ Brien and Senate Pro Temp Jessica Green are all available in the SGA Complex at varying hours and we are all on top of any emails and questions that students have while we begin our work on many SGA intiatives.
Part of my work at PARI has included setting up a seismometer to measure earthquakes and will soon include work on wind power. Power generation is a very important topic, which we will be looking at on campus in the fall. The green fee proposed by the Earth Club will be voted on by students in the fall elections and we are in the process of researching how to improve campus safety and energy usage through implementing white LED lighting.
As always, I’m avaliable by email at sbpres@uncc.edu
Enjoy your summer UNC Charlotte!
