UTimes Editor Brian Carlton is doing a great job in giving SGA a voice throughout the upcoming year, here is an advance copy of my column for the Welcome Back issue. In the future if I ever give Brian anything exclusive, it won’t be printed here, it’ll be in the UTimes.

Welcome back! (And to the freshmen… good luck!) SGA has been working
hard over the summer to prepare for the many exciting issues that we’ll
be tackling this upcoming year. So what have we been doing over the
    summer?
    We’ve been:

    • Attending the Football Feasibility Committee meetings to maintain a significant student presence in the discussion on football
    • Planning for the 1st Annual SGA Voter Registration Drive from August 19th-24th
    • Laying
out the framework and method for voting on the Green Fee proposed by
the Earth Club last Spring and approved to be voted on by the student
body during the SGA Fall Elections, September 11-12th
    • Researching methods to make campus a more vibrant place by adding a centralized area that students can customize with paint
    • Discussing academic advising improvements with the campus administration

    But
this list is just a start of what we’ll be doing over the year. You can
follow everything we are doing throughout the fall and spring by
visiting the SGA website at http://sga.uncc.edu, visiting my blog at
http://your49erpresident.wordpress.com, listening to the SGA podcast
(coming soon), reading the SGA column in the UTimes, and by attending
the SGA Senate meetings in Cone 210 held at 5pm every Thursday. Get to
know your SGA representatives throughout the year and share with them
your ideas because our Student Government would be nothing without the
ideas an opinions of every student. I look forward to serving the
campus community throughout the 2007-2008 academic year and I hope that
you’ll drop by Cone Room 369 to visit in person.

    Sincerely,

    Justin Ritchie
    Student Body President
