The Executive Cabinet headed out to Jane’s Cabin in Ararat, VA so that we could spend some time getting to know each other and so we could set some goals for the year. The retreat started off with a tour of the health center and then we headed out to the Cone Center to load up our cars to head out to Lancaster’s BBQ in Mooresville, NC. They did a great job accommodating our large group by allowing us to set up a group menu and providing great service. Then we got stuck in traffic on I77 for about an hour as we went through Elkin and when we finally got on I-74 to Mount Airy, one car had a significant lead over us. The cabin we were headed to was way out in the middle of nowhere… when two of our cars arrived I realized that one of the turns was missing a road sign! Oh no! And cell phone reception was down… fortunately I set off in a vehicle search with Simon and we found the missing vehicle pretty quickly.

Then, we set up camp and did a few icebreaker games like writing down 5 things that nobody would know about yourself and placing those slips of paper in a hat. Then by passing the hat around we can learn cool stuff about each other. Joey played his Mandolin for us and then we went to sleep.

In the morning we ate breakfast and set off on a hike. Our picnic lunch didn’t work out because the picnic site was on an open fire ban! So we had to head back to the cabin to grill our dinner where we set our goals for the year and then headed back to Charlotte. Or at least we thought…
