These last few weeks have been hectic as exams and other coursework demands have taken up almost all of my time but the important things will always remain my top priority:

    • The Green Fee was cut back from $5 a year into $2 a year. This money will generate about $40,000 for a committee of students and facilities management to utilize in carrying out environmentally sustainable projects on campus
    • Marcus and Tim had a teleconference with UNCG this week to talk about how they’ve moved many of their student emails over to Gmail. SGA loves gmail and the fact that it is free for the university to use means that it is a win-win for everyone. The current email situation is inadequate because students only get 40mb of email storage. Gmail gives you over 5.6gb and is always increasing
    • Research continues into LED lighting on campus, we’ve found a company that produces high powered LED outdoor lighting and hopefully we can work with the new Sustainability Coordinator to get that project started
    • Tailgating will occur in the old Brocker Lot prior to the Southern Illinois game this Saturday! Thanks Gill and Quincy!
    • Charlotte is undefeated at Bobcats Arena thanks to An’Juan Wilderness!

The Green Fee is a waste, but I could over look that if you were to get student email accounts hosted on gmail.

Might I suggest putting the Green Fee under review for the first 2-3 years, then based on whether or not it does anything its supporters promised, decide on keeping the fee in place. I dunno, maybe actually look at getting grants and private donations for the program as well. Examine the Univ. of Wisconsin’s program. http://www.sage.wisc.edu/pages/support.html

Thanks for the comment. The Green Fee has a 4 year sunset clause meaning that it must go to student referendum within 4 years.

It is every intent of the committee to get private grants and donations from local industry. Since “green” is the buzzword now it generates a lot of press and corporations love to look like they are helping college students out… we think we’ll have some level of success in making that happen.
