Exams always keep us students busy. I even had to can the SGA podcast for the last few weeks because of them, but starting back next semester I’ll be updating the blog at least once a week again along with a podcast. But as for end of the semester updates here is what we’ve got:
- We have been working with Information Technology Services to implement Ruckus on campus. Ruckus is a free music service for students to use and you can install and register as long as you have an @uncc.edu email address. You can download free music from the service which can be used on your computer. It isn’t perfect, but it is free! This is a system that is implement at many other UNC schools.
- The university has agreed to explore an alternative course management system as opposed to Blackboard. This system will be easier to use and it will actually work! Our ideal goal with this is podcasting ability for most every class. Most likely we will use Moodle or Sakai. Imagine being able to edit your papers directly from Adobe Buzzword within your course homepage?
- After much work from SGA last year and this year, the coffee shop in the Student Union will be a Starbucks! The Student Union will also include a Wendy’s, Mama Leones, Zia Juice (like Jamba Juice), Einstein Bros. and a dining hall. Also the RDH late night menu will open at Crossroads in the spring.
Next semester we are going to focus on:
- Getting the Spirit Wall established in the Library Quad design. The spirit wall will be an area that students can paint to advertise student events.
- Having the first Lobby Corps meeting. The lobby corps will advocate for UNC Charlotte student issues with state and local legislators.
- Getting 49er Logos on City Buses. ’nuff said.
- Greening the Belk Tower for Men’s Basketball Home Games -> We just have to get facilities to commit to the work order schedule.
- Following up on everything else from the first semester like having the first green fee committee meetings.
